Recently two things in particular have intriqued me:
1.
On my way from Monaghan to Emyvale I usually set my speed control at 78km which means that if the
Speed Van is on the road I don’t have to worry about my speed. However, and this has happened a few times
now, I am on my way and sitting behind a vehicle which is travelling about the same speed as myself when we
come in sight of a Speed Van at Legacurry and suddenly the vehicle in front slows down to 55/60km and stays
at that speed until they turn the corner past the Van and then the boot goes down and by the Tydavnet Turn
they are passing Corracrin Church area. Why have they to reduce to such a slow speed when 80km is the
accepted limit and then proceed to break the limit when out of sight of the Van?
2.
Do those responsible for the closure/reduction of services in hospitals like Monaghan, Dundalk, Ennis, Nenagh etc now feel
responsible for the problems in our hospitals like Limerick, Cavan, Galway, etc. We in Monaghan knew and claimed that to
remove services from Monaghan would cause mayhem in Cavan, Drogheda and Dublin hospitals as they did not have the
capacity to deal with the added numbers and it would make life very difficult for Monaghan patients and it has come to pass.
150 patients waiting on trolleys in Limerick to get into the hospital proper to get treated while many of those patients could
have been treated in Nenagh or Ennis. The delay for some of those patients puts their lives at risk as it is known that many die
needlessly here in Ireland every week because of delays. Cavan is the main hospital now for the people of Monaghan and, as
one example, if a Monaghan patient needs a Scan then they must go to Cavan, which for some is at least an hour away over a
difficult roadway. There are three scanners in Cavan but why can they not have one of those in Monaghan to save Monaghan
people waiting in a long line in Cavan? This is another example of piling everyone into the one hospital and making patients
wait their turn because of the big number being directed to Cavan.
