Oh What a Night it was in St. Mellans Complex on Saturday, November 19th 2016 where
Emyvale Amateur Boxing Club held their Annual Tournament to a full house and with
a full programme of bouts. There were 18 bouts in all and every one of them was a
'cracker' with all the boxers giving a full spirited and committed account of themselves.
There was an excellent atmosphere as the audience got behind their boxer and the
roof was rising with the volume of the shouts of encouragement. This was a very enjoyable
night with top class boxing bout after bout and no one suffering any injury. Even
the Exhibition Bouts were contested as if there was a gold medal at the end and great
credit must go to each and every boxer who took part. Credit too to the organising
committee who left no stone unturned to ensure that everything was in order and that
the programme would run smoothly giving the spectators plenty of entertainment and
great value for money. An event like this requires funding to make it worth while
and the club expresses its appreciation to all those who sponsored the Rounds and
the prizes for the Raffle - McCaffrey Engineering;Carparts, Monaghan; Adrian Geary,
Construction/carpentry; Watterson Concrete, Daniel Douglas Kitchens; Sliabh Beagh
Hotel; Wrights Concrete; Emyvale District Credit Union; Auto MacK; Aughey Screens;
Seamus Watters; Hollands of Emyvale; G & G Centra; The Village Kitchen; McIntyre
Tools; Baridek Services; D. Treanor Tiling; IJM Timber; McKenna Fuels; Patsy and
Mary Treanor. The tournament cannot run without the judges and referees - Aideen
Floyd, Colette McGeehan, Joey McGeehan, Paul Mayse, John Breslin, Bradon McGarrigle.
Thanks to all the boxers from various clubs in Ulster who travelled and participated;
Thanks to Barry Bear for amplification; Thanks to the Red Cross personnel; Thanks
to the Truagh Club and the staff of St. Mellans for providing a great venue; Thanks
to Maretta and staff for the very welcome refreshments; and thanks to the huge number

by Seamus Watters and at the interval Gregory McKenna, of the Emyvale Club, made
