BC Blitz 2016

The Brendan Colton football Blitz 2016 was held at Tully on Saturday, September 18th and it was an absolute festival of football. 28 teams turned out to battle it out for the BC Cup and Shield and the weather was ideal for football. It was a fantastic team of workers who implemented the various aspects of the Blitz from referees, umpires, admin staff, catering staff, Red Cross, stewards, car park marshals etc etc and a huge input from the Colton family. It was all coordinated by  Aine Sheehan and she deserves great credit for the manner in which she had the event so well organised. Well done to all including the teams and their mentors. The teams were: Augher, Aghaloo, Castleblayney, Clones, Clontibret x 2, Culloville, Currin, Drumhowan, Eire  Eglish St. pats x 2, Emyvale x 2, Fintona, Galbally, Inniskeen, Keady, Maghera x 2, Maghery Armagh, Monaghan Harps, Newtownbutler First Fermanagh, Rocks St. Pats, Scotstown, Truagh x 2, and Tyholland. There were some excellent displays of football skills from these young performers and it is obvious that much work is being done at club level to produce the stars of the future. After the group stages 14 teams played in the Cup competition with Eglish & last year’s runners up Keady making it through to the cup final with Eglish running out eventual winners. 14 teams played in the Shield competition with Monaghan Harps & Clones making it through to the Shield final with Monaghan Harps coming away with the honours on this occasion. The winners of the skills competition were Culloville. Special thanks to Moran Travel for their generous sponsorship of the tournament. The prizes were presented by members of the Colton family.
