Emyvale Boxing Club is a very busy place and a place where champions are made - well
maybe not made but definitely helped up the ladder of success. The latest is young
Kaylin Geary, who is Emyvale's newest Irish Boxing Champion. Have we a Katie Taylor
in the making. Kaylin certainly is committed to further success and we wish her well
and we congratulate her and her coaches, including her Dad, Adrian.
Meanwhile Oisin Treanor is heading to Germany on Wednesday morning to the Black Forest
Cup as part of an Ulster team. Oisin is another committed young man and gives everything
in training and in the contests and has many Championship medals to his credit. We
wish him every success in Germany.
Gold for Oisin.
What a weekend for Oisin Treanor of the Emyvale Boxing Club, when he arrived home
from Germany with a Gold. He was boxing as a member of the Ulster High Performance
team in the Black Forest Cup tournament. This was a top class event with over 600
boxers from all over the world participating in their own weights. It was also a
different experience from the Irish Boxing as the bouts were 3 Rounds of 3 Minutes
each Round. At home here each Round is only 2 Minutes in duration and that minute
can make a huge difference and demands a very high level of fitness. Oisin, however,
was ready for it and in the Quarter-finals he had a unanimous decision against his
Uzbekistan opponent and another unanimous decision against a German opponent in the
Semi-final. It was a German boxer against him in the final and this was going to
be a difficult task but Oisin stayed the pace and once again secured a unanimous
decision. This was boxing at the highest level and it is wonderful achievement to
take Gold against such opposition. Our heartiest congratulation to Oisin and indeed
to his coach, trainer, manager, - his Dad Mickey. he continues to bring the best
out of Oisin and Oisin responds and produces the results, bringing further honour
to himself, his family and the Emyvale Club and is giving a tremendous example of
commitment and endeavour to the other members of the club. In total the Ulster team
came home with 3 Gold, 4 Silver and 3 Bronze medals which shows the high standard
of performance in the sport has been reached by the Ulster boxers.
