Fish Fish are good for you and we are encouraged to include fish in our weekly diet. Fish taste best when they are cooked fresh rather than taking them out of the freezer when needed. However rural Ireland does have problems in getting fresh fish unless you have a fisherman in the house who can go out and catch them fresh in a local river or lake. However if you live in or around Emyvale and North Monaghan you have an ideal opportunity to purchase fresh fish of all makes and sizes every Thursday and it has nothing to do with the tradition of eating fish on Fridays although there was nothing wrong with that tradition. If you want to taste a different fish each week you will have a huge choice to select from if you go to the Duck Farm Shop area at the top of the village on Thursday from 11.00am to 2pm where The Fresh Fish van will be set up and a lady will send you home with your choice and at a very reasonable price too. You should give it a try and hopefully we can make it worth her while to come to us every Thursday.
