Monaghan GAA Golf Classic 2017

A sub-committee set up by Monaghan Coiste organised a Golf Classic in Rossmore Golf Club and it was held on Saturday, June 3rd 2017. Once again this year McAree Engineering were the main sponsors and over 70 teams participated, with some of them playing the course on Friday. The weather on Saturday had showers periodically but it did not deter the golfers from their game. Good scores were recorded and all enjoyed the experience and the refreshments. All were high in their praise at the condition of the Course. On Saturday evening a Talk Sport session was held chaired by Alan Gunn and has Brendan Beggan, Peter McGinnity and Terry Hyland on the panel. It was an interesting discussion with emphasis on the upcoming Monaghan V Cavan game with a 'very close game' predicted by all. The Armagh V Down game was also discussed as the winner of the Monaghan V Cavan faces the winner of that game and we now know that Down were victors. Two of the panelists went for an Armagh win with the other, Terry, voting for a Down win. Prior to the presentation of awards by Peter Richardson and Claire Doogan, representing the sponsor, McAree Engineering (V-Mac) the following spoke: Michael O McMahon, Coiste Chairman; John Heffernan, Club Captain; Pat McMorrow, Club Secretary; Peter Richardson, V-Mac; and Brendan Casey, organising committee. The awards were then presented and this was followed by a hilarious presentation by the ever popular comedian, Big O.

The winners were: Longest Drive: Kartie Dwyer; Nearest the Pin: Logan McQuillan; Best Club Award: Doohamlet GFC; Ladies team: Della Hunt, Kineta Crawford, Briege McCague and Mary Quinn;  Mens team: 4th - Tommy Harte, Rory Harte. Melvin Brogan, and Sammy Mealiff; 3rd - Terry Connolly, Colin Walker, Jim Keogh and Paddy Reilly; 2nd - Terry Gilsenan, Kevin Treanor, Dick Reidy and James Corrigan; Overall winner on a count back - Jim Fanning, Jim McConnon, Francie McGuigan and Martin McCague.

The Organising Committee then made a presentation of a donation to the Alzheimer's Centre to which Mai Murphy replied with appreciation.

Below we have some on-course images and some of the teams who participated.
