Intermediate League - Emyvale V Killanny

Killanny moved into second place in the Intermediate Football League table after their win over Emyvale in Tully on Sunday, April 17th. They are now just one point behind leaders, Donaghmoyne with two wins and a draw. Emyvale sit in 7th position with just on e win recorded but having lost two games now. This was a game they should not have lost even though Killanny has been showing good form so far in Intermediate. Emyvale is still missing a number of players, which is a drawback but they had enough quality on the field to take the points on Sunday. Some indiscipline and poor passing left them exposed to constant attacks and a couple of needless fouls within their own 45 gave Killanny the opportunity to go in front and hold on to their lead. A few substitutions in the second half did little to turn the tide and in the final ten minutes Killanny took control and there was no going back for the home side. The final score was 0 - 9 to 0 - 16 but there would have been a greater distance between them were it not for the powerful saves by the Emyvale keeper, Paudie Hayes. In the opening quarter Karl McQuaid was playing a great game and feeding the forwards as well as taking a score himself. However he seemed to pick up a knock and his input was reduced, especially when he was placed at full forward. It was disappointing that when tall men were positioned at full forward there was a scarcity of high balls going in to make use of the height. It is early in the seasons and points on the table at this stage would ease the pressure later in the League but this team can get their act together - they have speed, they have youth and they have skill but all of this needs to blossom simultaneously to gain maximum benefit. The starting team was: Paudie Hayes; Ciaran Connolly; Gregory Devlin; Aaron Loughran; Kyle Hughes; Darren Mc Kernan; Conor McQuillan; James Bellew; Karl McQuaid; Anthony O'Brien; Gavin Mc Kernan; David Bellew; Daniel McMahon; Michael Flannery; Fintan Mc Kenna.
At half-time of the game t
he presentation of medals to the U-12B and U-14 runners up teams from 2015 was carried out by Ryan McAnespie. Well done to all the team members and their mentors.
