Visit of Two Ministers

Minister for Agriculture and Defence, Mr. Simon Coveney TD's and the Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, Heather Humphreys TD. On Wednesday morning the two Ministers paid a visit to Silver Hill Farm and both expressed their delight at the visit and paid tribute to Ronnie and Lyla Steele for developing the Duck Farm and plant over the years and also to Stuart who is now the MD. Minister Coveney thanked the Steel family for the excellent manner in which they have contributed to the economic life of not just the local area but to the economy of the country as well. Stuart gave him a brief history of the Farm and spoke of further developments in the coming months and years. Stuart also praised the Silver Hill team of workers and spoke of the community aspect of the workforce. He pointed out that all aspects of the duck production are owned and controlled by Silver Hill Farm from breeding, egg production, hatching and selection to processing and cooking. The success of Silver Hill Farm lies in the unique Silver Hill Hybrid duck, continually developed over the years, to produce a duck that is full of flavour, succulent, tender and consistent in its quality. This breed is exclusive to Silver Hill Farm. Stuart thanked the two Ministers for coming and for their support. He also thanked former Deputy, Seymour Crawford, for his support while a TD. The Ministers, and all present, then sampled a number of different duck menus developed by Silver Hill and exclusive to their products. Afterwards they were taken on a guided tour of the plant which impressed them very much. Minister Coveney thanked all for the hospitality and said that he was delighted to be able to visit and compliment one of the leading producers and exporters of food in Ireland and wished Silver Hill further success.
