Monaghan V Fermanagh Ulster Championship 2017

On Saturday, May 20th Monaghan Senior and Minors took on Fermanagh in the opening salvo in the 2017 Ulster Championship. The Minors were first up and Monaghan had a fairly easy task of disposing of the opponents with a final score of 1 - 17 to 2 - 7. Indeed the ease caused some of the Monaghan lads to take their eye off the ball and allow the Fermanagh boys to get back two goals but the introduction of Conor Doyle steadied the ship again.
The senior game was a frustrating one with so many missed chances and lacking in tea work at times. They should have had the game sewn up at the interval but only led by two points. However they made up for it after the break and scored ten unanswered points to take a commanding lead. The introduction of Owen Duffy and his scoring of three points from play seemed to give his side renewed confidence and by the end 13 of the side had their names on the scorecard and a final score of 1 - 20 to 1 - 11. This included Dessie Mone, who received a great reception when he was introduced and fulfilled his role getting his customary point. The Black Card for Ciaran Hughes early in the game had likely something to do with the manner in which the team performed but they will have to be able to ignore such as they go forward. Their next game is against Cavan in Breffni Park on Sunday June 11th. The Minors meanwhile play Cavan on Saturday, May 28th in Breffni.
