Monaghan V Roscommom in NFL.

Monaghan moved in to a four way tie at the top of Division 1 of the Allianz National Football League by defeating Roscommon in Inniskeen last Sunday, March 19th. with a scoreline of 2 - 17 to 1 - 13. Monaghan began well and pout some excellent moves together to go into a strong lead but during the second quarter they seemed to ease off and allowed Roscommon back into the game to narrow the gap. The second half was somewhat similar with Monaghan strong in the first 15 minutes and the outcome at this stage was evident and Malachy O'Rourke used the remaining period to see what some of the men on the bench would do. Roscommon did claw back a fluke goal but the final score gave the victory to Monaghan. Seven Monaghan players got their names on the score sheet which is a good indication and one that takes some of the pressure off Conor McManus. The team and scorers was as follows: R. Beggan; F. Kelly (0-1), D. Wylie (Capt.), R. Wylie; K. O’Connell, N. McAdam, R. McAnespie; D. Hughes (0-1), K. Hughes; G. Doogan, S. Carey (0-1), K Duffy; J. McCarron (1-7), C. McManus (0-4), D. Ward (0-2).

Subs: O. Duffy (1-1) for Carey (46), C. McCarthy for McAnespie (51), V. Corey for K. Duffy, O. Coyle for D. Wylie (both 62), B. Greenan for D Hughes (64), S. Gollogly for O’Connell (65). The position at the top of the Division will change after next week and for Monaghan they face Donegal in Ballyshannon, which will be a big test as Donegal will be up for another win after disposing of Tyrone last week.
