Open Day at McAree Vintage Museum 2017

The Annual Open Day at the Vintage Museum at McAree's Engineering, Ballinode, was held on Sunday, July 9th. Once again a huge number turned out to stroll through the years as brought to life through the massive collection of artefacts and memorabilia put together by the late Vincie McAree and added to by Brendan and the family. This is a complete history demonstration and one that covers every aspect of life in Ireland decades and indeed centuries ago. It is the result of a lifetime of gathering and tabulating large and small items of heritage, things that were once common to everyone, yet now forgotten by many and unknown to most. It is not a place to skip around as you must take your time and browse at each shelf, each nook and cranny, each item and let your imagination take you back in time. We should leave the museum with gratitude in our hearts that our forefathers were so ingenious and creative to invent better and easier ways of doing things and we should be thankful to the late Vincie McAree and family for allowing us the opportunity to remind ourselves of where we have come from and how life was like for previous generations. Members of Monaghan Veteran and Vintage Club were present with a display of vintage cars, tractors, lorries and implements. To add to the fabulous exhibition members of the Breffni Vintage Club arrived with some of their beautiful cars and it was great to meet up again with good friend Eugene Markey. Our photos show some of the items on display but they do not do justice to the entire collection. You can only get that by going to the next Open Day. Donations were accepted and all monies will go to Drumkill Day Care Centre. Meanwhile to cool yourself down or to have a refreshing cuppa of tea or coffee you could go next door to the Ballinode Community Hall and enjoy Ice Cream or tea/coffee and give a donation which will go to Downs Syndrome Association in Cavan/ Monaghan.
