North Monaghan Social Services held the Christmas Party at their usual Thursday afternoon
in Emyvale Leisure Centre on December 8th last. There was a great turnout to enjoy
the fare and the Centre was well decorated in keeping with the Christmas Season.
Mick, Marie, Kathleen, Patricia, Annie, Brigid, Nancy and the two Margarets (hope
I didnt leave anyone out!) had everything in readiness and served a full Christmas
Dinner to 61 members of the NMSS. Prior to the start of the meal there was a great
reception for Marie Murphy as she arrived in the Centre. Marie has been a mainstay
of the NMSS from its inception back in 1986 but has been hospitalised and recovering
from her surgery for the past two months. It was great to see her back. The food
was ready and served and all enjoyed the feast. Then Fr. Hubert led a seasonal Pray
Service of readings, prayers and carols. He was assisted by Mick Kavanagh and Amelia
McCormack. It was then time for the man himself, Santa, to arrive on the scene and
go from table to table leaving a little chocolate present for all, after which the
Raffle was held and excellent prizes handed out. Pat McQuaid, on behalf of all present,
presented a gift to 'the workers' and Marie Murphy accepted it on their behalf. Then
the music, singing and dancing was the programme for the remainder of the afternoon.
A great day and a great occasion and one has to congratulate and pay tribute to the
committee of the NMSS, who are all volunteers and do a wonderful job of providing
our Senior Citizens with the Thursday Club every week and well done to all the Senior
Citizens who attend and enjoy the event each week. Extra volunteers are always welcome.
