Congratulations to Oisin Treanor, Emyvale Boxing Club, who took home Silver from
a prestigious Tournament held in Schwerin, Germany, between November 24th and 26th.
Oisin was part of the 11 man Ulster High Performance team competing against teams
from five other European countries, including Germany, and over 100 boxers took part.
This Tournament is organised in memory of a great boxer from Germany, Sven Lange,
who was fatally injured in a car accident on March 2nd, 1992 leaving a wife and young
On Friday Oisin, boxing in the Junior Weight Class 48kg, met the German champion,
Daniel Bliznac, and this was a tough bout with Oisin coming out on top. This brought
him to the final on Saturday when he faced Ibrahim Boukhedim, a French National Champion,
and this was an even tougher contest with little between the two but in the end the
judges gave the decision to the French boxer leaving Oisin with the Silver. This
is no mean achievement when you consider that he was boxing with some of the cream
of Europe and to get Silver is tremendous. This means more honours for Oisin and
more for the Emyvale Club. The Ulster High Performance team was adjudged as the Best
team in the Tournament and came home with 4 Gold, 3 Silver and 2 Bronze medals. It
is terrific to have a local involved at this level. Well done Oisin and may successes
keep following you.
