Despite a weather forecast that promised rain and wind for Sunday there was no rain
and no wind as hundreds descended on Glaslough for the Annual Road Races organised
by Glaslough Harriers. Indeed conditions were ideal for the event and there were
some excellent performances. The Juvenile events began on time at 12 noon and these
created high tension as parents urged their offspring to greater effort. Some parents
could not stop themselves getting involved and joining the child on the running track
to push them forward. The first event was for Special Needs and Padraig Kelly held
on to his winning record by flying over the line at a huge pace. The Glaslough mentors
were watching carefully as their members participated and new talent spotted. After
the juveniles it was the turn of the adults and Danny Mooney from Letterkenny put
in a blistering time to finish ahead of the rest while Brian McCluskey from North
East Runners finished second and Shane Brady, Clones in 3rd place. In the Ladies
section Carrick Aces took first and second with Anne Lynden over the line is an excellent
time with Rose Lamb hot or her heels. After refreshments in the Oakland Centre the
adult prizes were presented. The Juveniles received their medals at the finish line.
The Peter Pritchard Cup went to Aoibhinn McCormack and presented by Theresa Pritchard
Kavanagh. The Phelim McQuaid Cup was presented to Matthew Finn by Yvonne McQuaid.
The Deirdre Duffy Trophy went to Rachel Callery. Luke Cawley was presented with the
Pat McKenna Cup by Bernie McKenna Murphy while the Shane Leslie Cup wen to Glaslough
Harriers and Comiskey Cup to Monaghan Phoenix. The Ken Kennedy Shield went to Carrick
Aces, Eugene Connolly Cup to Conor Maguire, John Curley Cup to Danny Mooney and the
John Reilly Cup went to Letterkenny. More results to follow. Our photos show some
of the action.
