The annual Road Races organised by Glaslough Harriers too place on Sunday, April
1st. They were planned for a fortnight earlier but the snow forced a postponement.
However there may not have been snow on April 1st but it was certainly cold plus
wet and soggy as well. However the weather did not seem to dampen the spirits of
the athletes as big numbers participated in all races from U8 to Adult. The competition
was tough and the going tough but great effort from all and great wins for many too.
The prizes for the juveniles were presented at the finish line and the adult awards
were presented in Oakland Centre after the races finished. The 5k Race was chipped
and so the results can be accessed HERE but the various cups were presented as follows:
Peter Pritchard Cup - Ella Connolly; Phelim McQuaid Cup - Eoghan McCaul; Deirdre
Duffy Trophy - Aoibhinn McCormack; Pat McKenna Cup - Harry Murphy; Sir Shane Leslie
Cup - Armagh team; Gene Connolly Cup - Andrew McKenna; Noel Comiskey Cup - Glaslough
Harriers; Arthur Sherry Cup - Rebecca Henderson; Ken Kennedy Shield - Glaslough Harriers;
John Curley Cup - Eskander; John Reilly Cup - MTR. Well done to all competitors and
to the big number of spectators who all braved the cold and rain to make the 2018
Races another success for the Harriers. Michael McQuaid, Upstairs Downstairs was
on hand to present the Harriers with a set of Senior Singlets for which the club
is very grateful.
