Rossmore Golf Club Book Launch

On Friday, June 23rd Minister Heather Humphreys officially launched the 'Centenary Journey For Rossmore Golf Club 1916 - 2016' in the Golf Club Clubhouse before a capacity audience. This book (hardback) details the history of the Golf Club from its modest beginnings through the years of development to its centenary celebrations in 2016. It includes a report on achievements in regard to club development but also honours gained over the years. It also has a chapter on 'significant club personalities' and one on the plans for the future development. It is a wonderful read for anyone involved in the game but also for the historic connection of the club with the community and the Rossmore estate. The life of any club which has weathered many a storm and has numerous significant achievements during its 100 years of existence has a lesson for many other clubs in other sports, who are trying to survive. The Centenary Book Committee consisted of Sean Kilroy (Chairman); Noeleen O'Gorman; Kathleen Cadden; Barry O'Gorman and Bertie Geary with research assistance from Betty Blemings; Marion McDonald; and Chris Treacy.  The Centenary Committee was made up of: Captain Maurice McBirney; Lady Captain Eileen Kearns; President Sean Kilroy; Donal Guckian; Patricia McDermott; Barry O'Gorman; Betty Blemings; Chris Treacy; Kathleen Cadden; Eugene McGinnity; Maria McKenna; Bertie Geary; Ethna Smyth; Noeleen O'Gorman; James Murphy; Marion McDonald; Mary McGann and John Heffernan.

He drew attention to some of the chapters in the book as highlights of the history and mentioned the future plans and hinted that grants would be very well received if the Minister could assist. Noeleen O'Gorman spoke of the book and highlighted three very important achievements covered in the book - the Provision of the Clubhouse; Full Membership and equality for Ladies; and the redesign and development of the Course to ensure that the 9th Hole ended at the Clubhouse. The Minister then addressed the crowd and congratulated all responsible for this excellent production and very important work for posterity.
