EMYVALE
Senior Scor Finals
The County final of Senior Scor for 2011/2012 was held in Ardaghey Community Centre
on Saturday night. This is a good location and facility but the lack of storage space
behind and at sides of stage seems to cause a problem for the Novelty Acts who must
work from a clear stage get all props on and off in time. Mackie Rooney was his
usual excellent self as Fear-an-Tí and the Scor committee made sure that a very full
programme of competitions went off smoothly and quickly.
The Overall award, the Deirdre
Rooney Cup, was won, and not for the first time, by the Emyvale Club and was accepted
by Kathleen O’Brien. Emyvale was victorious in the Figure dancing, Set Dancing, Ballad
Group, and Novelty Act. The other winners were: Solo Singing - Drumhowan; Instrumental
Music - Aughnamullen; Recitation - Scotstown; Question Time - Scotstown, which answered
every question correctly and so scored full marks. Well done to all the other competitors
in all sections who made it a great night of competition. As often we might not always
agree with the adjudicator’s decision but they do have the final word. We wish those
going forward now to the Ulster Semi-finals in Stradone next weekend the very best
of luck.
In the Ulster Semi-finals in Stradone, two acts -Emyvale Ballad Group and Emyvale Set Dancers, were victorious and go forward to Ulster Finals in Derry City later this month. Scotstown Quiz team were very unlucky with only one question separating them from the winners and our other representatives were excellent but did not get the decision. The standard was very high. Congratulations to our winners and we wish them every success at Ulster.
