September Art Network

The September Art Network Showcase was held in the Markethouse on Wednesday, October 26th and a full house enjoyed another night of talent and entertainment. Comedian Lorcan McGrane, the resident MC for the Showcase was on the list of performers and so Pat Deery was asked to stand-in as MC for the night and he did so with aplomb, style and humour. First up on the night was Enda Galligan, from Monaghan town, who told us the details of the story leading up to the execution of Mary Anne McConkey on May 1st 1841. She was the last woman executed in Monaghan. Next up was Barry Quinn who worked wonders with his guitar and other electronic equipment producing haunting and rousing sounds all blending to create a musical extravaganza. There was the usual interval then when all retired to the room below for finger food and refreshments and of course - socialising, which is an integral and important part of the Showcase. Opening the second half was Lorcan McGrane and he, with his unique humour, took us through the history of the Horror Film. The final act of the night was The Cantemus Chamber Choir from South Monaghan. This Cjoir was formed in 2010 by Lorraine Cotter and began life as a Female ensemble but the male species has been involved since 2015. They sing a wide range of material and their enchanting voices can deliver a classical, standard or medieval repertoire with delightful harmony. All in all another very successful night for the Arts Network and a very enjoyable night for the audience.
