A Taste of Monaghan 2016

A Taste of Monaghan 2016

Now in its seventh year, this wonderful celebration of local produce, talent and culture took place in the Upper Court House Car Park, Monaghan Town from Friday 7th to Sunday 9th October. The Taste of Monaghan Festival Marquee hosted exhibits by more than 65 top quality producers, providers and traders. “This year our exhibits really do represent the journey of food from farm to fork”, comments festival organiser, Jenny Blackburn. “We are delighted to welcome the Irish Farmers’ Association as an exhibitor to the Festival Marquee as they represent such a large and important part of our local community and economy”. Other exhibits include many of the county’s major food producers and exporters, such as Mallon’s Foods, Silver Hill Farm, LacPatrick and Kepak. Alongside these large producers there was a range of artisan producers and start-ups, such as Harry’s Dog Bakery, Glaslough Chocolate, Brehon Brewhouse and Kama Hemp. But that was only part of a huge exhibition representing all tastes and needs. There were events and cookery demonstrations over the weekend. These included the ever popular schools cookery competition, demos by Monaghan Farmers’ Market’s Joan Boyd, Cathy MacKenna – winner of the Great Irish Bake Off 2015 – Conor Mee of the award-winning Courthouse Restaurant in Carrickmacross, Eastern Balti House, The Hungry Monk Asian Restaurant, the ever popular Adrian Martin and newcomer to Taste of Monaghan, David Bez – Salad Pride, to name but a few. In addition to the amazing line-up of demos, there was a charity walk in support of SOSAD Suicide Prevention Charity on Sunday morning and Monaghan Gospel Choir entertained on Sunday morning as well. It was a very successful weekend and attracted huge crowds to the county town and was a very powerful showcase of all that is good in and around the county. Our photos show some of the local exhibitors and some of those who took part in the SOSAD Walk.
