Tydavnet Show 2017 Launch

Its all systems go for the 66th Tydavnet Show on Saturday, August 19th with a full programme of events and competitions to suit all tastes. Barry Sherry gave a full hall the details at the Official Launch in Tydavnet Community Centre on Tuesday, June 13th. He told of a couple of changes to the event which included Free access to some amusements for children as the committee were anxious to emphasise the family day aspect of the Show. He also thanked George McCarron, who had stepped down as Treasurer after 17 years of loyal service. He thanked the sponsors, many of whom were represented at the Launch; the exhibitors and the Volunteers, with whom the show could not go on. Chairperson of the Show Committee, Peggy Treanor, welcomed all and thanked the huge army of helpers needed to hold the Show and this included the landowners at Drumshevra, the judges, the stewards, the participants and her hard working and committed committee. It is usual for the Committee to have a celebrity guest speaker for the launch and this year that role was very adequately filled by Monaghan's Martin McVicar, MD of Combilift. Martin spoke of his own background and how Combilift came about. He spoke of the importance of having the right workforce and how they select new employees. The work ethic of Combilift is what has made it successful and their unwritten motto of - 'if there is a problem find the solution' leads to progress. He complimented the Show committees of the past 66 years who organised the Show despite problems but by solving the problems and he wished every success to the 2017 Show. Mary Sherry, President of the Show, presented a gift to Martin afterwards. Prior to the launch there was a National Schools' competition for children to design the front cover of the Schedule and the results were announced and the 2017 Show Queen, Shauna McAree, Edenmore, presented the prizes. The winner was Sarah Taylor from Billis NS while Aoibhe Genoe, Magherarney NS and Bernice John, Urbleshanny NS were in 2nd and 3rd place respectively. All enjoyed a tasty and appetising supper thanks to the ladies and gentleman who served it.
