U13 Division 3 Championship

Emyvale U13's displayed fantastic commitment and skill to take the title in the Division 3 Championship competition which was played at the Harp's HQ in Rooskey on Monday, June 25th 2018. This is a great team and have shown that they have skill and determination to win games and never give in. In the run up to the final they played Inniskeen defeating them with a score of 10 - 19 to 3 - 3 and that took them to the semi-final against KIllanny. In the league the previous week Killanny had defeated Emyvale and defeated them well so the Emyvale lads knew that would need to produce the goods if they were to reach the final That game was played in Emyvale and from the throw-in the home side took control of the game and never looked like being beaten and they reversed the result of the previous meeting. Now they face Doohamlet in the final and this was not going to be an easy task as they had amassed big scores against their opposition on the way to the final. However within 30 seconds of the start Emyvale showed they meant business when Matthew Finn netted and that set the scene for the game. Doohamlet had size and strength advantage and used it to try to intimidate and get the upper hand but the Emyvale boys applied themselves to the task and established a good lead which they would not relinquish. At one stage it did not like Doohamlet were going to make a big comeback but every time they scored Emyvale came back at them and cancelled it out. There were a number of excellent displays from the Emyvale team but all showed the willingness to get in there and do their bit. It was a delight to watch them giving everything for the win which they thoroughly deserved. However I do need to mention the coaches of this team as they played a pivotal role in the win and I am told that Barney McNally was the planner. Jarleth Colleran, Marty O'Brien, Ciaran Walsh and Michael Deery  all played their part in bringing the team to a high standard of play and ability. I would hope that these players will stick at the game for the club and continue to bring honours to Emyvale. One word of caution - there were a couple of times when a little indiscipline was displayed by one or two players and that does not win matches and is not nice to watch and does not help if one is sent to the line with a Red Card.
Congratulations to all concerned and well done on the win. The Cup was presented by Padraig Sherry, representing the County Board, and Deirdre from Gerry's Prepared Vegetables, the sponsor.
