Teacher Retires: Ann Mallon, who has been a teacher in Corracrin NS for the majority of her teaching career, decided to retire at the end of this school year after 40 years as a teacher. Her mother, the late Susan Murphy, was also a long term teacher in Corracrin NS too. Susan, nee Treanor from Toneyfinnegan, was married to the late Gerry Murphy who was a very well known business man in the north Monaghan area. Ann is married to Christopher Mallon and they have been living in Emyvale. On Wednesday, June 16th, Corracrin NS, under the leadership of Principal Richard Baxter, decided to hold a farewell event for Ann and this was held in the school. Mr. Baxter introduced the event and the various classes in the school in turn made a presentation after performing a prepared programme of song, recitation and words of praise for their teacher. It was then the turn of the principal and he expressed thanks to Mrs Mallon on behalf of pupils and parents, for her commitment, expertise and teaching qualities during her time in Corracrin NS. One of her colleagues on the staff, Ms. Evelyn Murray, gave a fairly detailed summary of the great benefits Mrs Mallon brought to the school population over the years and wished her a long and healthy retirement. Mrs. Mallon replied appropriately and expressed her thanks to staff, including former principals, parents and the pupils. Presentations were then made from those representing the Parents Committee, the school staff and the Board of Management after which Mrs Mallon was asked to cut the cake and all enjoyed a cuppa and cake. Christopher and their daughter, Aoife, were in attendance at the Retirement event. We would like to add our good wishes to Ann and her family for the years ahead.
