Gary Askin Run 2020:
The 2020 ‘Run to Remember Gary Askin’ was held on Sunday, October 11th and due to Covid 19 restrictions it was a Virtual Run this year but this did not prevent the community of North Monaghan supporting the event and it was a huge success as in the previous two years. The organising committee and the Askin family are deeply appreciative of the support this event has received and are delighted to be in a position to present the funds raised. The participants completed the Run/walk at their own homes, around lakes, through parks, at football pitches and on roadways of North Monaghan and they posted images of their participation. There was also a competitive race on a timing system and the 2020 Men’s section was won by Oran McGee, while Therese Scott was the Overall Women’s winner. The presentation of the funds raised was presented to the various organisations on Saturday, November 14th by the Askin family. The two main recipients were the Christopher McGonnell’s MS Journey and Errigal Truagh Special Needs and each received €6,890. Smaller amounts were donated to Corracrin N.S.; Edenmore N.S.; Glaslough N.S.; Glaslough Harriers; Emyvale Development Association and Donagh Development Association. All expressed their appreciation to the Askin family and the organising committee. The Askin family and the organising committee issued the following statement: ‘From all of Gary’s family and friends, we want to say a sincere Thank You from the bottom of our hearts, to everyone involved in making ‘A Run To Remember Gary’ a truly special day. It was a day, we once again, will never forget. To every individual, organisation and business that participated and donated to the chosen charities, we are so grateful to you all. The show of strength and support from Co. Monaghan and abroad in such difficult times has been overwhelming. It was an incredibly touching tribute to Gary and a heartfelt celebration of his life’.
