Blackwater 10k The Blackwater 10k race/event was held in Monaghan on an annual basis and money raise was donated to charity. Covid19 put an end to all sporting events for 2020 and instead people’s minds turned to survival and helping others to survive. The organisers of the Blackwater 10k decided to help the community in this battle for survival and in association with other athletic and running clubs/groups organised an online Virtual Run where people could run/jog/walk 2k,5k, 10k or any distance and make a donation online. The money raised would purchase essential and badly needed equipment to protect staff and service users in five Care Homes in County Monaghan. Already some of this has been delivered and handed over but the remainder will be purchased in the coming days and it is hoped that all this will help save lives. The event ends at midnight tonight and the organisers are hoping to reach €10,000 target. They are getting there but if you can help it would be appreciated. https://www.njuko.net/blackwater-virtual/select_competition?fbclid=IwAR06vmtMal4- GsqC6LwSVP6M0iHVe9xKJ4fQv_FOERQhT2Fm-ahn8rv9WfY This link should get you there before midnight tonight. The images below shows representatives making a presentation to the Care Homes and the cyclist is Peter McKenna who cycled instead of Running and Emyvale CC participated in the event. Well done to the organisers.
Word has just reached me that the fund has now reached €11,234.00 and as the Donation link remains open for another day or two this figure will hopefully increase. This is a fantastic result and great credit must go to the organisers for their initiative. The generosity of the public and the response to this event is in keeping with the great community spirit which the Covid19 has inspired and the goodness it has brought out in people but then the Monaghan people have always been very supportive of good causes. So it is well done to all involved. There is no doubt lives will be saved through your generosity as the recipient Care Homes will get more essential equipment.
