Minor Players Honoured: For the first time in many decades a Monaghan Minor team reached the All-Ireland final in 2023. They faced a very strong Derry team in the final, which was played in Armagh. Hopes were high as this team had displayed great ability in the games leading to the final but Derry had also proved that they were a powerful team and aiming on an All-Ireland title. On the day Derry were the stronger and very quickly established a lead which proved too much for the Monaghan men, try as they might. However it was a great achievement for the Monaghan team to get to the final and it gave us all hope for greater things to come. Three members of the team were Emyvale players - Matthew Finn, Andrew Stewart, Johnnie Wright. Goalkeeper coach was also an Emyvale player Conor Forde. On Wednesday the Emyvale GAA committee decided to hold a gathering in Tully to congratulate the boys and present them with a present. There was a good turnout of people in attendance at short notice. Enda O’Brien stated that everyone in Emyvale were proud of the contribution these four had made to Monaghan football and the excitement they brought to all GAA people this year. Further words of praise and acknowledgement of their contribution to the Emyvale club were reported by Sharon McKenna on behalf of the Juvenile committee. Paul Bogue then presented them with specially produced Jerseys, which they will have as a lovely souvenir of their football involvement of 2023. Due to prior arrangements Conor Forde was unable to attend but he was included in the event.
