Big Catch Congratulations to Martin McKenna, Emyvale, who landed this ‘monster’ of a trout in Emy Lake recently. Martin, a keen fisherman and active member of Emy and District Anglers was delighted with his catch and it proves that Emy is home to big fish and fishermen from far and near are coming to the Lake to enjoy a days fishing and hoping to land something as challenging as the fish Martin displays. Martin returned the fish to the waters of Emy. I did not get the details of fly used or weight of the fish or the area of the lake where he caught the fish but then who wants to give away secrets like that!! Well done Martin.
More Fish Attached a slightly ‘smaller’ trout caught on Emy recently and safely returned to the water by Enda Fields. No secrets either given on flies or location but it was about over 2lb in weight. With fresh cool water entering the lake this week or so, trout have been are very active and are feeding fantastic at the moment. Unfortunately, Weeds/algae/silt etc are a huge problem in Emy Lough. Enda has made representations to the Inlands Fishery Board to investigate this further. Also , If anyone like to hear more about fishing / kick sampling etc the wild rivers and lakes of Emyvale. please come next Sunday August 25th from 2-4pm - venue mountain river opposite Emyvale Enterprise centre see link https://www.heritageweek.ie/whats-on/event/take-a-splash-in- the-mountain-water Be prepared to get wet. If you have a small net and wellies take them with you and enjoy the outdoors. Light refreshments will be served
