Gary Askin Run 2021.On Sunday October 17th, the community of North Monaghan and beyond gathered once again at Emyvale GAA Grounds to take part in the fourth annual ‘Run To Remember Gary Askin’. Organised by Gary’s family & friends, a huge number of people attended the event with all donations this year going towards Crocus Cancer Support Monaghan and Fr John Skinnader Education in South Sudan. Winners of this year’s competitive races were Patrick J McKenna (Overall Men’s) & Amy Hamill (Overall Women’s). Many others ran the course in their own time and handed in a donation. On behalf of the organising committee of ‘A Run To Remember Gary Askin’ we would like to thank Emyvale GAA for hosting the event and for the use of their facilities. We would also like to thank Glaslough Harriers for organising the logistics of the Walk/Run and Barry Kerr for providing the audio. To An Garda Siochana, stewards and Red Cross for ensuring the safety of participant’s right around the route, this was of great help and comfort to everyone involved. And finally to everyone who helped with the event including catering staff, announcers, photographers, especially all who participated & donated, this would not have been possible without each of you and we are so grateful for all your efforts. It was an incredibly poignant afternoon and the large crowd in attendance was once again a touching tribute to Gary and the high regard he was held in by all those who knew him. The presentation to the chosen charities will take place in the coming weeks.
The images are in no particular order but two deserve mention - the members of Emyvale Cycling who helped with stewarding and the Irish Red Cross who are always there to help. Thankfully their services were not called for but we thank them for being there.
