Run To Remember Gary Askin 2022
On Friday July 29th, the community of North Monaghan and beyond gathered once again at Emyvale GAA Grounds to take part in the fifth annual ‘Run To
Remember Gary Askin’. Organised by Gary’s family & friends, a huge number of people attended the event with all donations this year going towards
Monaghan Cavan Palliative Care Fund and the Holy Family Special School, Cootehill. Winners of this year’s competitive races were Oran McGee (Overall
Men’s), Breda McFadden (Overall Women’s) and Cornacrieve Mushrooms (Relay Race).
On behalf of the organising committee of ‘A Run To Remember Gary Askin’ we would like to thank Emyvale GAA for hosting the event and for the use of
their facilities. We would also like to thank Glaslough Harriers & Donagh Development for organising the logistics of the Walk/Run and Barry Kerr for
providing the audio. To An Garda Siochana, stewards and Red Cross for ensuring the safety of participant’s right around the route, this was of great help
and comfort to everyone involved. And finally to everyone who helped with the event including catering staff, announcers, photographers, especially all
who participated & donated, this would not have been possible without each of you and we are so grateful for all your efforts. It was an incredibly
poignant evening and the large crowd in attendance despite the weather was once again a touching tribute to Gary and the high regard he was held in by
all those who knew him. The presentation to the chosen charities will take place in the coming weeks.
Due to an anniversary Mass I was unable to remain at the event to publish the winners etc but their names are printed above. Our images show a small
proportion of those present.
Peter got the Finish Line just about up when
this lady finished !!!!!! Peter looked and said he
could not see another runner anywhere near
the finish.
