County Handball Notes Liathroid Laimhe. St.Mellans Handball Club Cumann na mBunscol. Deravoy NS had 5 students taking part in Ulster Cumann na mBunscol Tuesday past, in St.Pauls Belfast in the girls U11 Singles was Alannah Campbell, this was a tough group that include the reigning Ulster U12 champion but after shaky start against a strong Antrim Alannah settled well against Cavan but came up short 11-3, 11-2, then against Donegal she got stronger and after losing the first 11-5 was just pipped 11-10 in the second, then done very good against the Ulster champion in Tyrone 11-3, 11-1, she improved with every game, the U11 Doubles of Ava Mc Kenna could have won it if only the first game have had went their way against Antrim, but lost it 11-9, 11-7, then against eventual winners of Tyrone they lost the first one 7-11 but took the second 11-10, then against Donegal they won both games 11-6 each, as Tyrone won and Antrim came second if the first game was won then they could have won it over all, but a great effort by all, then in Gort Na Mona Belfast the boys U11 Doubles of Shay Mc Kenna and Shane Kelly played but things just didn’t go their way and they just came up short on the day to Cavan and Tyrone, disappointing that a better representation from all schools in the parish didn’t happen as this is a brilliant competition for students to be taking part in, a big thanks to Deanna and Lorraine who drove down on the day with the students to Belfast, a great experience for all and also a day of school, what’s not to like about handball kids !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! . Adult Club Doubles. The “Scarna Inn” and “Treanor Memorials” Doubles competitions for adults are out and have begun this week, please make a special effort to keep all running smoothly and on time to avoid a back log, so keep an eye on fixtures and for the winners the next match time. Gola Woodworks Cup. Still a couple of games in the Gola Woodwork Cup, so when they are down to a final, we will play it alongside the Robert O Reilly Engineering Cup Final. Juvenile Coaching. As now the new “summertime” has arrived and hopefully the good weather to follow we have called and end to all coaching of the juveniles, even though hurling and football season will be kicking in we would encourage to keep in touch with the alleys especially as the weather might not favourable for outdoors, so have a ball in your gear bag and pop in for a “hit around”. Juvenile Club Action. The Juvenile Credit Union League continues for just another 2 weeks on Saturday and Sunday evenings at 5pm as to allow the commencing of the outdoor activities. Irish Nationals. For all that have entered the Irish Nationals we will be sorting out practice for you all, the full forum of play is scheduled for April the 30th and May the 1st, but some preliminary rounds may be fixed for the 16th of April (depending on numbers), but we don’t know who will be in them until fixtures are drawn up so keep practicing until then.
