Cycling Jerseys Exhibition.Saturday and Sunday, October 29th and 30th There is a display of Cycling Jerseys in the Scotstown Complex provided by Patsy Brady as part of his 70th Birthday celebrations. If you make a donation Patsy will be giving it to a good cause. From the early age of 15 years Patsy has been collecting Cycling memorabilia and now has a massive collection of all kinds of Cycling paraphernalia from magazines to photos, jerseys and his prized possession – a cardboard life-size cut-out of the one and only Sean Kelly. There were two of these made and Patsy has one. As a youth Patsy used get the weekly magazine called Cycling Weekly, which he used buy in Hamill’s on the North Road. Sometime later a monthly magazine appeared on the stands and it was called – International Cycling Sports, which he bought every month. He used read them all cover to cover, not once but many times. He also purchased a set of small books on cycling, which was produced by Kennedy’s in Liverpool. There is a huge international market for Cycling memorabilia and Patsy keeps his eye on that so that something he might like could come up for sale. Every jersey in his collection has its own story and the collection also records the development of the Cycling jersey over the years using different styles and material to suit the riders during different seasons and countries. When I called there was another great Cycling Personality there and Danny was delighted to see the massive display and complemented Patsy on the great work he is doing in recording cycling history. Patsy says that when he realised what other countries were doing for their cycling heroes he decided that he would highlight the great contribution Irish cyclists have made to the international sport of cycling and has developed so many clubs throughout the island. We congratulate Patsy on his great work and hope that he as a good birthday and continues to gather the memorabilia for history.
