Lawnmower Run 2019.
The rain came down in torrents for a time just before the start of the Lawnmower Run/Walk but there was plenty of covere so all just stood in for a while and the sun came out. Engines were started and revved up and the new Principal for Corracrin School, Richard Baxter, was the official starter and he wished all a pleasent journey and thanked all for their participation. He hopped in to the driving seat and put the pedal to the floor and off he went with a stream of other craft following and some being pushed and then the walkers who had to take it slowly so that they did not pass out the lawnmowers. So we left McMahons Funeral Parlour behind us and off down to Emy Corner and round the Lake and back to base, where Mary McMahon and her helpers had tea/coffee and plenty of pastries for everyone. Thanks Mary - it was really appreciated. Thanks too to Peter and all the marshalls who were on duty despite the rain. and to all who helped before during and after the event. Well done to John Sherry, Chairman of the Donagh Development Committee, for his marvellous work in organising and to the other committee members who helped in no small way. Most of all a big thank you must go to all who supported the event financially and the final figure will be announced shortly but the committee must be disappointed with the lack of support from a number of the organisations, groups and individuals who use the facility. This annual fund raiser is needed in order to maintain the Walkway and those who use it should be supportive of the terrific work being done by John and his committee to provide the communites with such a beneficial amenity.
