Mens Shed and Mens Den: The Mens Shed has been in existence for a number of years now and has provided a wonderful service for men and for retired men in particular. They have a number of activities to suit every interest and the kettle is always on the boil. Based at Rooskey and open 5 days per week men can have a garden plot and grow vegetables and/or flowers. There is a well fitted out workshop for carpentry and light metalwork and other pursuits. There is a Computer Room and a reading room and of course a kitchen for that cup of tea/coffee and some of Danny’s expert baking. The Mens Den is another group for men and is the mens section of Crocus. Those men who have been diagnosed with and are going through cancer treatment and those who have had cancer and are in recovery can become a member of Crocus and they and their family members can avail services too. The Mens Den meet every other Tuesday in Crocus where there are ears to listen and men who are on the Cancer journey or have gone through it. There is also a part of the evening given over to a guest speaker, which is always enjoyed. Of course the cup of tea/coffee will not be omitted. As the weather improves and Covid reduces it is hoped to get back to some of the activity we had prior to Covid and one of those is a Walk and Talk in Rossmore on Sunday mornings. At the moment and for the past couple of months a big effort has been made to provide transport for members attending treatment or appointments. All members of Crocus are entitled to use this excellent service. I can personally recommend using this service as last week I was having tests and was not allowed to drive for 24 hours afterwards and so I availed of the Crocus Cruiser which was excellent. By the way - tickets will be available for a new car until the weekend and your support would be greatly appreciated.Last week too the Mens Den fulfilled an invitation from the Mens Shed to pay them a visit and we went and were shown all the various options available to members there and they also presented Crocus with a Seat/Table which was transported across to Crocus Centre. We also enjoyed the tea and some of Danny’s cooking. It was a wonderful visit and amazing to see what was being done there. We also admired the great display of Daffodils which were planted by Dan who passed away after Christmas before the flowers were in bloom.
Pictures show: 1 - Workshop 2 & 3 - The Seat/Table donated to Crocus with a great statement ‘Love the life you live’. and the Computer Room4 & 5 - A place of peace and rest and the Daffodil display planted by Dan RIP.
