Emyvale wins Division 3.

Emyvale 2 – 15  V  Rockcorry 2 - 14

Emyvale minor team made the comeback of the year on Tuesday, August 17th, when they pipped Rockcorry at the post to win the Maguire Transport Minor Football League Division 3 final for the St. Dympna’s Cup played at Aghabog.

Dirong the opening half Rockcorry was in total control. They cut our moves, intercepted passes and attacked in droves and finished the half with a comfortable lead. The second half was a different game. Rockcorry began where they left off and maintained a lead of eight or nine points. However they gradually slowed down and started to make mistakes. Their leaders of the first half were being reeled in slowly. This instilled confidence in Emyvale and a goal from the spot increased the pace and urgency of the Emyvale players. When it came to a goal difference it looked very like there was going to be a draw. Then in the dying minutes Emyvale was awarded another penalty. Where the first penalty was obvious, and was similar to one awarded to Rockcorry earlier, this one was questioned by Rockcorry but it ended in the net bringing the sides level. Rockcorry had an opportunity of a long range point in injury time but it was wide of the post. Emyvale surged up the field from the kick-out and a foul just outside the 45metre gave Emyvale a free kick. James McAlister stepped up to the ball and kicked it long. It went over the bar with the aid of the crossbar to the delight of the Emyvale supporters and team. Time was up and Emyvale won by a point 2 – 15 to 2 – 14.

Pauline Rooney, representing the County Board, presented the cup to Cillian McCarron, captain of the Emyvale side. The team was as follows:
