Truagh 2 - 10 V 1- 9 Monaghan Harps
This game was played under lights at Emyvale on Friday, September 10th. Despite a wet night a big crowd turned out and enjoyed a tough and close contest which could have gone either way. Harps got off to a good start and when they rattled the net early on it took the Truagh lads a while to settle in and get to grips with the game. However by half time Truagh had taken control and went into the break with a six point cushion thanks to a great save by their keeper, Anthony Treanor.
The second half began with both teams sharing points but as time progressed the Truagh legs began to slow up and mistakes were being made. The Harps were on the way back and could have squared the game but a couple of timely substitutions on the Truagh team brought in fresh legs and and they once again showed their superiority to run out winners with a score of 2 - 10 to 1 - 9.
Truagh should be happy with the result but they have some weak areas that will need work if they are hoping to get victory next time out. The Harps will be disappointed with their performance and lack of hunger. Some of their main players were held in check and some of them seemed to lose concentration on the game. The wet conditions were difficult for both teams but it has to be said that conditions had little bearing on the final outcome.
