The revived Carrickroe Welcome Home festival kicked off on Friday, July 1st with a parade led by the Brantry and District Pipe Band. This marched from the Community Centre to the Marquee followed by local TD, councillors, floats and local people. These included Pete McCarra with Horse and Trap carrying the 2011 Monaghan Rose of Tralee, Caoimhe Daly. Denis McKenna was driving a spotless example of the Ferguson.
At the Marquee Caoimhe and Mayor of County Monaghan, Seamus Coyle, jointly cut the tape and declared the Festival Under Way. It was then inside for some refreshments and a variety concert of local artists followed by Adrian Knight, the hypnotist, and then a Disco with DJ Darren. It was a great night and a great start to the festival.
