Senior Championship Final 2019: Clontibret faced Scotstown in this final and everyone was expecting and looking forward to a good game. Scotstown was going for Five in a row and Clontibret were going to knock them off the pedestal and take the title. These are two teams with top class players and top class football was on the cards. The weather was ideal and the pitch was in excellent shape and a good crowd were in their seats. The game was a tough dogged affair with niggles and rough tactics sparking retaliation in a number of positions but very soon Clontibret were in their stride and pushing further and further ahead of their rivals. At the interval they were ahead but no one could write Scotstown off. However the second half proved similar to the first and Clontibret held on to their lead, despite the efforts on the Scotstown players. Scotstown just did not seem able to get into the game from start to finish and some looked tired but it was the fast and furious attacking style of the Clontibret team displaying fitness and good teamwork which prevented Scotstown from showing their true ability. Clontibret were deserving winners and were crowned Senior Champions of 2019. Conor McManus was named Man-of-the-Match. A group of 25 Canadian visitors from PEI also attended the game and enjoyed the atmosphere though I do think they were hoping Scotstown would win.
