Taste of Monaghan 2019 had a new format this year with all the Stands and Displays on Church Square and the Diamond. There were plenty of opportunities to get tasting a wide variety of food cooked in a variety of ways. Chefs displayed their talents and made teeth water for some of their creations. There were many other demonstrations and exhibitions too with various crafts and talents on display and thankfully the weather remained pleasant for the crowds as they strolled around. However one event caught my eye a little more than others and that was the Cookery Demonstration given by Chef Padraig White. This was a demonstration with a difference as it was the young he invited up and each of them had an opportunity to prepare the ingredients and mix the dough and see their cakes bake and all the time the explanation of every stage was outlined to them. No doubt there will be a couple of chefs grow out of that experience. I have had the joy of experiencing Padraig’s talents when I dined in his restaurant in Virginia and am sure he will be very successful in his new position. Overall those who attended the event in Monaghan cannot but be impressed by the variety and availability of good food in Monaghan and hopefully the exhibitors will find an increase in sales as a result.
