Tidy Towns 3
Emyvale & environs monthly clean up 24/4/2021 A fantastic group of volunteers were out and about Friday evening, April 23rd,and early on Saturday morning and afternoon for the end of month ‘litter pick-up’ in conjunction with An Taisce Spring clean https://nationalspringclean.org. Emyvale Tidy Towns committee express their thanks to An Taisce for supplying bags and gloves for the clean up . The normal full skip load was taken away on Saturday evening and thanks to Monaghan County Council for supplying the skip. It was amazing to see the amount of rubbish once again thrown into the river, along the road verges and on top of hedges to name a few places where the pickers had to retrieve rubbish. People should use the bins in the village or take it home and put into their own bin? Each month a large quantity of glass bottles are picked up yet there is a bottle bank behind Emyvale Leisure Centre, where people can ldispose of their glassware instead of carrying it to the outskirts of the village and tossing it into the hedge. Maybe some people don’t know it’s there? While cleaning the Mountain Water near the main bridge a number of volunteers surveyed the old hidden stone walls on both sides of the river down stream from the Bridge and the unsightly silt build-up in that area. A discussion took place to investigate the removal of the silt and then to re-point and restore the stonework? More investigation is required but we will kepp you up to date on this item. It would be beautiful to see this old stone facade once again. Many thanks to everyone who helped out at the April Pick-up. Next litter pick is Saturday May 29th from 11am-1pm. Again everyone is welcome to come along and give an hour or even less to help with the clean-up. The Tidy Towns committee are dedicated to the task and will continue to do their bit to make beautiful Emyvale a great place to come on a visit, to live in and to work in and to enjoy . Below are some photos from the 24th weekend:
