Track Dedicated to memory of the Late Gary Askin: On Thursday, August 15th 2019 a new walking/Running Track at St. Patrick’s NS Corracrin was dedicated to the memory of the late Gary Askin. Outgoing Principal, Michael Boyce, welcomed the gathering which consisted of School staff; Contractor, Noel Hackett; sculptor Mark Kelly; School Board representative; Parents committee representative; the Askin family and friends; and Fr. Martin. Michael thanked all responsible for the Walkway which came about through the Askin family, McAnespie family, Board of Management, Local businesses and the Gary Askin Run organisers. He said it is an unique development, which will be used by pupils, parents and local community. He described Gary as a great young man with a wonderful smile, a very good student and a fine athglete, who died long before his time and that this Track will be a fitting memory of him. He paid tribute to the contractor, Noel Hackett, the sculptor Mark Kelly and all who were involved. He thanked Fr. Martin who then related a poem from Bishop Romero, entitled ‘Prophets of a future not our own’ and then he read a prayer blessing the occasion and praying for all who helped provide the facility and those who will use the amenity in the future. He complimented all involved.
Little Holly Murray was enjoying the event.
