EMYVALE
Mary McGlone R.I.P.
Our sincere sympathies to the McGlone family, Killymurry, on the death of their mother, Mary McGlone, nee McAree. Mary has had a long illness which necessitated care in the Valley Nursing Home and for the past five years she was cared for in Mullinahinch Nursing Home. The family have expressed extreme thanks and gratitude to the staff of both Homes for the excellent attention and care afforded to their mother.
Mary was a nurse in England during the Second World War and came home in 1945. She had some very harrowing experiences there during the War. She married John Joe McGlone, a farmer and rate collector from Killymurry. They had seven children - sons - Joe, Peter and Gerry and daughters - Sheila, Olive, Jacinta and Carmel. However in 1960 John Joe passed away, which resulted in Mary having to raise her family single-handed - a task she performed with great energy and confidence. She learned how to drive and took over the jobs and work previously done by John Joe. However in the midst of it all she had time to relax and attend concerts and other social outings.
Mary’s remains were brought to Ballyoisin Church on Thursday evening where they were received by Fr. Nolan, Fr. Martin and Fr. Skinnader. Requiem Mass was celebrated by Fr. John Skinnader on Friday morning and the crowd was so large that many were unable to gain access to the Church. Fr. John spoke of the great personal qualities displayed by Mary throughout her life and how she used her faith to cope with the problems that faced her in life.
Mary was interred in the adjoining cemetery after Mass. She is survived by two sisters - Maggie and Agnes Callery.
