A close friend: It was with shock and profound sadness that we heard of the sudden death of Gerard Kelly, Cornacassa, Monaghan. We have been friends with Gerard and family for many years and it was a pleasure to meet with Gerard and have the chat. He was a lovely person and one would enjoy his company. He always had a good story to tell. Gerard was well respected for his entrepreneurial skill throughout Ireland and in many countries abroad. As well as managing a very successful business in Ireland he was very much involved in a number of organisations in county Monaghan and beyond. As a member of Monaghan Lions club he was very aware of people who needed help and was always to the fore in offering his assistance. However it was not only through the Lions Club that he was offering his support but quietly he helped anyone he discovered was in need of assistance. He was a well known and beloved member and participant of Monaghan Motor Club and was, for a number of years, the main sponsor for Monaghan Football among many other organisations. He was a true gentleman through and through and will be sadly missed. We offer our sincere condolences to Mardy and to David, Paul and Paddy and their families at this very sad time. We pray that they are given the strength to come to terms with their loss and may Gerard’s gentle soul rest in peace.
