Ann and Fran’s Walkathon. A huge congratulations to Emyvale residents, Ann McMahon and Fran Boyle, who completed an incredible 42-km Walkathon to raise funds and awareness for two worthy organisations, Monaghan Alzheimers Society and Samaritans Drogheda and North East, who will shortly be opening a hub in Monaghan town. Their determination and incredible community spirit have highlighted the important work these organisations do and thanks to their efforts, the funds raised will greatly contribute to maintain the much-needed services they provide. Ann said, “ When we heard Samaritans were opening a hub in the town, myself and Fran, resolved to start training for a Walkathon, raising funds for two charities, namely the Samartans and Monaghan Alzheimers Society. The support we received, both emotional and financial, was beyond our wildest expectations and kept us going every step of the way. Unfortunately we all know someone living with dementia and the Monaghan Alzheimers Society provide great support to them and their families. All funds raised will be split evenly between both charities, helping them continue their services, raise awareness and making a difference in the lives of those who need care and support in the community’’. Margaret Fahey, Director of Samaritans Drogheda and North East branch said, “ we are truly grateful to Ann and Fran for their kindness and tenacity in turning what was a thought in a conversation about our impending arrival to Monaghan town, a reality. The welcome, thoughtfulness and support we have received on the streets in the town augers well for our future presence in the area and will ensure Samaritan services will flourish and grow, providing those who need support, a listening ear”. Ann and Fran’s support and the support of the local community will make such a difference to so many people. The two girls are so very grateful to everyone who made their Marathon Day and very special occasion. To those who met them at 7.45am for the start, all those who accompanied them en route including members of the Monaghan Alzheimer’s Society and the Samaritans and to everyone who was at the Lake for the finish. A special word of thanks to the 2000 Day Group for the balloons, placards, bouquets of flowers, tea and treats and ongoing support. They are so grateful to all who have donated online and in person. They are overwhelmed by your generosity and support. They will close donations on Saturday April12th. The link is - Ann and Fran’s Walkathon on IDONATE.
