St. Macartans out of MacRory Cup Competition.

St. Macartans College ended any hopes of MacRory Cup success this year when they were defeated by a very strong St. Mary’s from Magherafelt in the Athletic Grounds, Armagh, today, Saturday Feb 6th. This team had defeated the Monaghan boys in the preliminary League and finished stronger in the league tables but St. Macs were still hoping to reverse that defeat. However St. Marys never allowed them to get into this game and maintained control of most sectors of the field and even though they shot 13 wides during the 60 minutes St. Macartans could not get within real striking distance. This is not to say that they did not try and there were a couple of valiant efforts but to no avail. Emyvale lad, Gareth McQuaid tried very hard and scored a well taken goal minutes from the end but the midfield and half forwards were unable to get the ball into the full forward line and wer also guilty of a number of wides when scores should have been taken. Daniel McKenna and Padraig McKenna from Truagh also tried very hard but they faced a much stronger opponent.
