Cancer Support from Gene and Kathleen.

Gene and Kathleen Murray from Knockatallon decided to celebrate their 30th Wedding Anniversary by organising a Fundraising Weekend in August last in conjunction with the Knockatallon Development Association. It was a huge success and through all kinds of activity and social occasions they raised the mighty sum of 32,100 euro. This was presented to representatives of the Cancer Support group at a function in Sliabh Beagh Hotel on Sunday, October 25th 2009.

Mary Mullan of Knockatallon Development Association acted as Chairperson on the night and gave brief details of the many events organised over the weekend, She said that it was an indication of the esteem with which Gene and Kathleen are held that so many became involved and that so much was raised. She thanked everyone who helped and the huge numbers who contributed. In accepting the cheque, Mary McGrane gave a run down on the workings of the Group and gave details of the numbers who have been assisted over the past seven years.  She thanked all who helped raise this fantastic amount and said that they would continue to assist those who were having to travel for treatment. Patricia Lappin then made a presentation to Gene and Kathleen from the family and friends and from the community and thanked them for their marvellous work. The night continued with food, music and dancing.
