County and Ulster Cup in Edenmore National School.
Team Captain, John Flannery, and team mates, Gerard McCaffrey and Ciaran Connolly, together with Club Chairman, Padraig Treanor, visited Edenmore National School on Friday, Dec 18. School Principal, Ms. McCrudden, introduced them to the various classes and the boys answered some searching questions as they moved from room to room. However it was the younger children who had most queries and the team had great representatives in the three players present as they were able to relate to the children in a very appropriate manner. Before they departed each room they had sweets for everyone, including the photographer, and left some in the safe keeping of the principal. It was an excellent exercise for the Club and good PR for the sport. Well done boys.
It also brought back some memories for this scribe as I recalled my days in the old part of the same educational establishment. Where we were all introduced to the game of GAA football by the then principal, Stephen McPhillips, is now being covered with a new building to house pre-school and classrooms. The teachers had one car and two bicycles between them then but now extra car parking facilities are being constructed to accommodate the modern transport methods.
