Junior Championship 2009.

Emyvale became Junior Champions for 2009 be defeating Toome in the final on Sunday October 4th 2009 in Drumhowan. Gerry McCarville, who took over the reins as manager this year, has been putting a nice gloss on this team and, even though it is a very young side, they are beginning to produce the goods. They went into this game without the services of Brendan McKenna, who was a big loss to them, but the remainder of the squad gave all they could on the day to ensure a victory. They were first to score and held the lead throughout but this was reduced to a minimum with only minutes to go and Toome threw everything into the final few minutes. At times it looked like a draw was on the cards but Emyvale held out against the onslaught and won the day with a score of 1 - 8 to 0 - 9. There were many good performances and indeed some disappointing ones but those will all be forgotten now as the club prepares to take on the Ulster Championship. Captain John Flannery collected the cup and I have to say that he led by example throughout the championship campaign. The squad was as follows: Gerard McCaffrey, Ciaran Connolly, John Flannery, Sean McMeel, Brendan Askin, Shane McKenna, Jonathan Morrough, Darren McKernan, Patrick J McKenna, Patrick McCarron, Martin McAree, Adrian McGee, Daniel McMahon, Gavin McKernan, Robbie McHugh, Seamus Downey, Brendan O’Brien, Stephen McAree, Gareth McQuaid, Gregory Devlin, John T Treanor, Colm McKenna, Killian McKenna, Lorcan McGee, Donal McAreavey, Barry McDonald, Michael Flood, Brendan Keenan, David Treanor, Barry Hughes, Colin Donnelly, Niall Mohan, Carl Murphy, Barry McGuirk, and Paul McCarron. Well done to all concerned including Gerry, Mac McElroy, Dermot McMahon and Monica and Eamonn McKernan.

Leave me alone - I’m writing my speech.                                  This is worth it.
