Kings of the Ring.
The date approaches fast for the big King of the Ring Boxing night in the Hillgrove Hotel, Monaghan, between personnel from Truagh and Emyvale. It will take place this Sunday night, May 2nd, and it promises to be a night to remember. Already the tickets are in short supply and as numbers get close to capacity it is advisable to purchase without delay.
Training in both camps continues relentlessly and the pounds are dropping off as bodies firm up for the big night. A couple of boxers from the Emyvale camp have been ‘missing’ for the past week and rumour has it that they went to the UK to a top Gym there but got caught up in the Volcanic Dust and could not get home as planned.
Pre-publicity is also important but it is being used by both sides to keep an eye on progress in the other camp. On Monday, April 26th personnel from both gathered at the Silver Hill Farm Shop, just on the border between the two parishes, though no one was totally sure where exactly Emyvale ended and Truagh began. Eugene McKenna was there to represent Silver Hill Foods, as they are the main sponsor for the event, and Rory Geary recorded a few shots for the Northern Standard. We also have a few pics for you here - some taken this week and others from times gone past when the Boxing Tournaments were held in the DPC organised by Emyvale Boxing Club. Can you recognise any of the boxers in the ring? All photos are copyright.
