Gigs around Emyvale
The Gigs were back in the Emyvale and North Monaghan area on Sunday May 1st 2011. They are a beautiful sight as they clip along the roads with their masters directing from the upholstered seat on the gig. One thing always puzzles me - are those seats really comfortable? The driver is sitting with his/her feet up on the front of the gig and it gives me the impression of being uncomfortable. Some have footrests lower down and other just let the legs hang which should be mush easier on the legs and more comfortable. However the numbers involved in the ‘sport’ seem to be growing and they certainly seem to enjoy their trips. Then there is a break for refreshments and the chat and social interaction during the rest time adds to the enjoyment.
