Monaghan’s New Hospital.

Take a look at the pictures on this page and you will see that we have an ambulance parked on the hard shoulder of the Monaghan By-pass. Now this ambulance seems to have broken down and the crew has gone on by different transport. However you are likely to see more ambulances parked along the side of the roads in the coming months because you see this is the ‘new hospital for Monaghan’ !!!! Yes since the closure of our A & E we are told that the ambulance service has replaced it. We are also told that the ambulance service is a mobile service - well not this one which is totally immobile.
Now when a patient is collected in an emergency the ambulance must take him/her to Cavan or Drogheda. If that patient becomes critical, or deemed critical by the medical personnel on board, immediate treatment may be necessary and to administer that treatment it will be necessary to pull in and come to a stand-still. Many treatments in those circumstances require the assistance of both medical personnel on board and that includes the driver. So if you see an ambulance parked up along the road there is a good possibility that a very sick patient is being treated inside and that the chances of that patient surviving must be greatly reduced because of the delay in getting in-hospital treatment, whether that be from a ‘senior doctor’ or a ‘registrar’.
The people of Monaghan seem to have accepted the situation that the promised ‘Advanced Paramedic’ can be in North Louth when needed in Monaghan and that we can do without. Indeed a few cases recently show that the loss of services in Monaghan begs the question - could that patient have survived had the services been in Monaghan and if he/she had been taken there.
Now Mary Harney has continually told us that she is acting on the medical advice of ‘experts’ and that this is all for patient safety. Well if you read Gene Kerrigan on the back page of the Sunday Independent (Sunday Oct 3rd) you can see that some journalists and some eminent people are now asking - are the Government ‘experts’ right? Remember it was the ‘experts’ who told the Government to spend, spend, spend; who claimed that there would be continued growth; who then said that there would be a soft landing for the economy; who then advised the Government to save the banks; who told the Government that it would cost about 4bn euro to save Anglo; who told the Government to attack the Old Age Pensioners; who tells the Government to invest in huge infrastructure projects that will yield little benefit; who has advised the Government to continue to invest in the banks and to bail out the developers; who now say that it could take 50bn euro to bail out Anglo; who has advised the Government to collect a ‘green tax’ on fuel to make people use less yet put services like hospitals further away from the patients; who has advised the Government to save billions in the health service by cutting services; who advised the Government to close hospitals to save money; who advised the Government that health services must be centralised and privatised; who have advised the Government is so many ways that have not worked and are allowing us to shrink out of existence and yet some of these same advisors are now controlling and managing banks etc for the Government. We have no idea how many Billions it has cost the state - sorry - you the taxpayer, to pay for this marvellous advice but we will pay more tax, more water charges, more VAT, more indirect taxes and more expensive services so that the Government can continue to pay these advisors. In the meantime we will also accept that an ambulance parked along the road will suffice as a hospital because the poor country has no money to provide the proper service to the people. We are fools and deserve what we get because we will do nothing to change it.
