Croke Park to Doohamlet
John Doran a prominent member of Emyvale Cycling Club is leading a delegation of
about 30 people from Doohamlet GFC to cycle from Croke Park to Doohamlet next Saturday
morning. They leave Dublin at approximately 8.30 am and hope to be back home in Doohamlet
for around 2.00 p.m. We wish them the best of luck on this long cycle and hope that
they raise plenty of money for their club in the process.
Giant's Causeway Sportive
Emyvale cyclists Eunan Croarkin, Gerard Hughes, Francis Mc Kenna, Dara Mc Kenna,
Gabriel Bell and Patrick Deery as well as Monaghan lads Ronan Baxter and Sean Baxter
tackled a mammoth 182 kms of the northern coastline on Sunday last. The cyclists
left at 7.30 am and were out in wind and rain battling the elements for the best
part of the day. This was an excellently run event and all credit to those who organised
it and to the lads who finished it.
Philip Deignan one of Ireland's top professional riders and who is competing in the
world championships this weekend gave a talk on Friday evening ahead of the event.
Phillip gave riders a unique insight into his training regimes as well as chatting
about winning Stage 18 of the Vuelta a Espana in 2009. He also be cut the ribbon
at the start of the sportive. Hopefully the lads will be recovered in time for the
Tour of Monaghan this Sunday!
Tour of Monaghan
The Tour of Monaghan takes place this Sunday 25th September. The event will cover
a distance of 100 kms but there will be shorter routes available to those who don't
wish to complete the 100kms. We are hoping for a big crowd and plenty of support
this Sunday. All ages male and female are welcome as long as you have a roadworthy
bike and a helmet you can come along and join in. Sign on and registration takes
place in Emyvale leisure centre from 8.30 am on Sunday morning with the tour starting
at 10.00 am sharp. The route will leave Emyvale and head towards Castleblayney on
the old N2 and go towards Cremartin, Ballybay, Newbliss where there will be a refreshment
stop. After that riders will head for Threemilehouse, Monaghan, Tydavnet and back
to Emyvale. Refreshments and showers will be provided in Emyvale leisure centre after
the event.
